Leica Ig

1957 - 1963

Leica's first camera with manufacturer's name on the front. A model which replaced the If intended for scientific or technical use. Has two accessory shoes on the top plate. Also has slow shutter speeds, as well as a top shutter speed of 1/1000th second.  Some were made without the slow-speed dial.

It also features built-in automatic flash synchronization for both conventional and electronic flash units. Since it was designed with industrial and scientific photographers in mind, it does not have the built-in rangefinder and viewfinder. But for general photography, separate viewfinder and rangefinder may be added. Or the Ig can be converted to a IIIg at any time by having the built-in rangefinder and viewfinder, and self-timer added.
